Description
A Handmade Finish for Well-Loved Wood
Wood remembers how it’s treated. Over time it dries, cracks, gets chalky, or simply loses its depth. A little care goes a long way — and that’s where this butter comes in.
Langskegg Wood Butter is a small-batch conditioner formulated to nourish the fibers beneath the surface while protecting the grain above it. Crafted for cutting boards and butcher blocks, yes — but equally at home on any unfinished or oil-finished wood that deserves to age gracefully.
Craft Formula
Each batch is blended and poured by hand in Idaho, using ingredients chosen for their purpose — not their marketing appeal.
Ingredients that earn their keep:
- Natural beeswax — warm, tactile protection and moisture defense
- Carnauba wax — durable polish and surface hardness
- Food-grade oils — deep replenishment for thirsty fibers. Supplement-grade antioxidant oil added to enhance shelf life
- Citrus essential oils — clean scent, improved absorption
No petroleum fillers. No silicone. Nothing synthetic standing between you and the wood.
What It’s Good For
Fatigue, dryness, and water damage don’t care what room the wood is in. This butter works anywhere unfinished or oil-finished wood lives.
Kitchen: end-grain boards, butcher blocks, spoons, bowls, spatulas, charcuterie boards, knife handles.
Living spaces: wooden toys, heirloom blocks, puzzles, jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes.
Workshop & office: hand-turned pens, mallet handles, tool grips, trays, boxes, inlay work.
Furniture: side tables, chairs, drawer fronts, unsealed hardwood surfaces.
If it doesn’t have a hard surface film (lacquer, shellac, catalyzed poly, conversion varnish), this will treat it well.
How It Works
Oil sinks inward to restore the grain. Wax stays at the surface to protect it. Together they keep wood from absorbing excess water, drying, swelling, or looking like it just crawled in from the shed.
Apply with the grain, give it time, buff it back to life. A simple, tactile ritual that suits the material.
In busy kitchens, wood isn’t decor — it’s a tool. Chefs understand that conditioned boards cut cleaner, last longer, and don’t dry out or crack mid-service.
Small Batch, Real Hands
Made deliberately in Idaho in limited quantities. Veteran-owned. Woodworker-run. Quality measured by feel, not throughput.
